Chapter 6 -- Buffing the Paint
Here we go......Finally.......
Here it is, in all its dull glory. I had ordered a $49 buffer from Harbor Freight, and it was a pretty good tool. All I needed to do now was order a couple of new arms and maybe a few back muscles, too. I've become pretty much out of shape the last few years, and it finally began to be noticeable when I was trying to finish this car. I had the right materials, as shown below, and the weather was fine....not too hot, and not too cold. I ordered a couple of books and asked some friends who know about this stuff, and they said I could do it just fine. So I started. But after doing about half the car half way, I decided I needed to find someone who could do it right, and do it in a day or two. The guy who painted the wagon's hood had done some buffing previously for me, and it was reasonable and well done. So I called him, and away it went, and home it came. That's when I realized I shouldn't have put the door handles in. But I can clean them. It's a small price to pay. It looks really nice, and I'm going to put that clear film over the front end to protect it from rocks and chips, and it should hold up well for a long time.
Four pics below show my attempts....OK, but not enough stamina. The last picture shows it back from the buffing monster. |

You can see that I am getting SOMETHING done, but there is a LONG way to go.
OK.....NOW it is beginning to look like something.....!!! (What a DISGUSTING windshield!!) |
