Here it is, in all its original glory.....factory paint, clear coated to last longer, and going together. The rear bumper is painted but not assembled, and the front bumper is also painted but not installed. It should be ready to bring home by the end of the week, which means I'll get it next Monday. I have two left taillights, and no right ones, but that's what PnP is for. The muffler shop will make me some new hangars, and I'll get a new doughnut and that'll be as good as new....the windows are ready to go in, and the rest of the interior is waiting. All I need to do now is find that other front speaker!!! |

It's on the frame machine just to make it easy to get underneath it to fasten the cladding. I'm sure glad the outside assembly was included in the deal....that would have been a REAL drag, and Eva is very happy that it looks as good as it does....to say nothing of what I think. Gary Mulholland (from the big list) was visiting for the day, and he was impressed with the reassembly. I stuck a new radiator in his '93 ATX, and he enjoyed our fair city with us today. More pix of my reassembly of the inside will be forthcoming as that occurs, when it finally happens...lots of house things going on right now. |

It's not white pearl anymore, but a penny saved here will be a penny earned later, when Black Diamond starts the restoration process.
About this time, houses got in the way, and it sat and sat for months...but at least it was home, in a garage, out of the weather. It moved into our new house 2 months before we did, in August of 2003. It was nice and safe in the middle bay of our 3 car garage.

Now it's the spring of 2004, and I am finally getting back to working on it. It's interesting how one sort of gets out of the inclination to work on something that has been left alone for a while. It took me several weeks to get up the gumption to go back out there and start on it. My neighbor and I worked on it for an hour or two one day in October, but I decided I wanted the shop to reinstall the electronics. How was I going to justify the expense.....Ha! I conned them into doing it for nothing! I let them change the pressure switch on the a/c system...it was still original, and kicked off once in a while. Plus, I let them install another pair of front speakers...I never could find that other MB Quart....it'll turn up in a year or two. For those two purchases, plus my long term business, they did about $400 worth of labor for free. An excellent establishment...Autohaus of Hayward, California.
Here's what it looked like after it came home from Autohaus, and I had to reroute the power cable from the front to the rear. It was too close to the speaker wires for the front speakers, and the car whistled like a banshee when the engine was running. I decided to just take the carpet out and run the wire over to the other side and down the center, keeping it away from any sound cables. After I reran the cable, I started it up and tried it out....it was and is fine. I also had to replace the Infinity Kappa 6x9s in the rear....they had been exposed to too many moist days out of the car, and the woofer coils had corroded. They were 8 years old, so I didn't feel bad. There are new Pioneer Premier TS-940P 4-way speakers in there now....all the cars now have them...both SHOs and the Slorider wagon. They're excellent!! The Infinity free air subwoofer still works fine. This car sounds GOOD!
At the same time I was assembling it, I was touching up the black trim on the outside, and replacing a lot of the interior parts that were already loose. Remember this car has over 260,000 miles on it, and the interior has been sat in, a LOT. So I replaced some of the plastic trim around the edges...the doorsills, some of the plates that the door switches mount in, and later I'll change the driver's side headliner retainer....for the third time. There are tons of them at the PnP, and they are perfect, if not black. That's what semi-gloss trim paint is for....you can't tell the difference. The headliner trim pieces cost about 40 bucks new, way back in '96 when I fixed it after it was stolen, but they are out of production now. At the yard, they are 5 bucks. I have 2 pair laid away for the Slorider wagon. I'll get some black ones for this car. Also, I painted the bumper stripe, since Maaco didn't consider that part of the deal. I also touched up the outside mirrors.....they look a LOT better now.
